Priming the Skin Before Makeup | Beauty & Lifestyle

Very often, people have the misconception that jumping straight into your makeup is all it takes to have a flawless application. But great-looking makeup starts before you even apply your makeup. It starts with a good base.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you some of favourite tips to ensuring you have a flawless base before you even start your makeup. Enjoy!

1. Cleanse
Cleansing the face is a step we often take for granted. Just washing your face with water isn’t enough. It’s crucial to get rid of dirt deep in the skin through cleansing. Ideally, you should cleanse in the morning and evening. But if you’re struggling, start off with just once a day. Right now, I’m loving the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser.

2. Exfoliate
Exfoliating is great since it deep cleanses the skin and rids it of any impurities. It also peels away dead skin- which is imperative for great looking skin. Exfoliating should be done one to two times a week- not more since overuse can strip the skin of its natural oils and minerals. I love using a grainy skin exfoliation with my pore cleanser to really clean out my skin.

3. Moisturise
Moisturising is a step you should never skip. It keeps the skin hydrated and ensures a flawless base. Depending on your skin type, you should find a moisturiser for you. Some are oil-free while others add hydration.

4. Suncream
Applying a sun lotion daily helps protect the skin against the sun’s harmful rays, thus preventing pigmentation, dark spots and even skin cancers. It’s important to apply even in winter or on days the sun doesn’t seem too bright. Using for a non-greasy sun lotion will also assist in makeup application.

5. Primer
A primer acts as a barrier between your skin and makeup. This helps prevent breakouts in the skin. Applying a primer can also ensure a much smoother makeup application.

There you have it! 5 top tips for priming the face to protect your skin and ensure a smoother makeup application.

All my love, Raeesa
